Annual Conference – Senior

We are delighted to announce Teun de Nooijer as our key presenter for the 2017 Senior Annual Conference.

Teun is one of the greatest players in the recent history of the game; representing The Netherlands 453 times and scoring 219 goals. He ended his record-breaking career with a silver medal at the London Olympics and by collecting the European Hockey League title with his club, Bloemendaal. Coaches and players alike will benefit from Teun’s tips and advice from his 18 years of playing at the highest level.

Teun heads up a ‘gold-studded’ line-up as he will be joined by British Olympians, Helen Richardson-Walsh and Kate Richardson-Walsh plus German international mid-fielder, Moritz Furste and top Dutch coach, Toon Siepman.

Format:
In the morning, players will grouped together (maximum of 14 per group) to create rotation groups. Each group will work with all the presenters for 15-20 minutes learning the various technical considerations.

In the afternoon sessions will be slightly different to previous years as all of the rotations will have a tactical feel to them. This will allow the coaches to support their players so they get a complete understanding (CPD) of the tactical considerations.

The conference has a similar format to last years, in the morning players will be grouped together (maximum of 12 per group) to create rotation groups all of whom will see the presenters for 15-20 minutes learning the various technical considerations. The afternoon session however will be slightly different to provide the opportunity for schools to develop tactical considerations within their own team. Players will stay as teams and rotate amongst the presenters who will deliver different tactical scenario’s in support of the school coach to ensure all tactical considerations are understood (CPD).

  • Developing Advanced Skills such as Reverse Stick Hitting, Drag Flicking and 3D Elimination Skills
  • Receiving Skills where Players prior to the receipt have a better appreciation of their Surroundings
  • 1v1 Defending Techniques
  • Distribution Technicals such as Aerials, Slapping and Disguise Slapping
  • Ball Carrying at Pace whilst still being able to Pass, Eliminate and Shoot
  • GK’s will be in a separate group working through specific Technical Considerations for Goal Keeping

  • Short Corner Routines (Attack and Defence)
  • Options from the Push Back (Centre Ball)

This Intermediate Coaching course is aimed at a coach who has perhaps been coaching for a number of years but is looking for an ‘update’ on the most recent developments of the game and assessment of how these developments are transferred into coaching technical and tactical considerations. Participants will take part in practical demonstrations in the morning and theory based learning in the afternoon to increase their level of understanding.

• Players ability to maintain a owing game and overcoming potential breakdown points

This Elite Coaching course is aimed at more experienced hockey coaches who are looking to improve their knowledge on the most recent advances in the modern game. The course adopts a more theory-based outlook compared to some of our other courses. Participants will take part in limited practical demonstrations in the morning followed by video analysis in the afternoon to increase the level of understanding.

• The latest technical developments of the game – 1st time passes
• How to coach each aspect of attacking penalty corners

The impact of the “self pass” has considerably changed the game of hockey. It has altered how teams attack and therefore where goals are being scored from (distance and angle from goal).

This course is designed to give coaches the essential understanding they need to keep up-to-date with the changes in Goal Keeping methods so their players can be at the top of their game.

Hockey, at all levels, is constantly changing and Mini Hockey is no exception. As the rules from the 11 a side format of the game filter down to the 7 a side format this is a essential course for all prep school, teachers. It provides teachers with the opportunity to stay ahead of the game by learning new principles and the implications of such principles before anyone else.

Despite the tactical considerations which go hand in hand with the rule changes for the 2015/16 season, 8 – 13 year olds is a key development phase for any hockey player. The habits established during this phase will be carried with them for the rest of their hockey careers. This course highlights the crucial skills and how to coach such skills so that players have the opportunity to maximise their potential.

The Course

The course is aimed at players, aged 11-16 and coaches of youth teams in either clubs or schools.

Format

Players will be divided into working groups, each containing no more then 14 players. Each working group will spend 20-25 minutes with each presenter learning the different coaching points before moving on to the next presenter.
Coaches will either be in 2 formal tutorials and or shadowing the players observing the various technical and tactical considerations being delivered by the presenters.

Field hockey is moving at an ever-increasing pace and, as a result, those who aren’t involved in the sport on a regular basis often struggle to keep up. However, has the game really developed that much and how much of the sport can be related to other sports such as netball?

This course is unique as it assesses the game of hockey – and in particular, the tactical considerations – and correlates the familiarities between hockey and netball to give those with a netball background more confidence with delivering hockey sessions and more importantly running the team on game day.
